Gods Unchained is a free-to-play digital collectible card game in which the cards are blockchain assets the player actually owns and can sell. Two players build 30-card decks around one of six gods, then duel in turn-based matches. The blockchain part is deliberately kept out of the match itself: you play the game normally, and ownership only matters when you want to trade, craft or sell what you earned.
GODS is the game's ERC-20 token. It is the currency used inside the crafting system and the card economy, and it is also the token players can stake.
The project is notable for two reasons. It is one of the longest-running blockchain games still shipping content, with expansions released through 2026, and it was the flagship title of Immutable, the company that built the scaling infrastructure the game runs on.
Official sources:
Gods Unchained was created by brothers James Ferguson and Robbie Ferguson, whose Sydney-based studio Fuel Games later became Immutable. The first Genesis card sale ran in 2018 and the game entered open beta in 2019, when cards were ERC-721 tokens on Ethereum.
Ethereum gas costs made that unworkable for a card game, and the need to fix it is essentially why Immutable X exists. The game moved to Immutable X, a StarkEx-based zero-knowledge rollup that let cards be minted and traded without per-action gas fees. In 2025 it moved again: card migration to Immutable zkEVM ran from June 2 to June 6, 2025, and the GODS bridge from Immutable X to zkEVM opened on June 5, 2025. A live check of the public Immutable zkEVM endpoint on September 11, 2026 returned chain ID 13371.
Playing and earning Matches are free and require no wallet to start. Ranked play awards Core cards and Flux, and a battle pass runs alongside each season of content.
Card quality tiers Cards exist at several quality levels, from Plain upward through Meteorite, Shadow, Gold and Diamond. Plain cards earned through play are account-bound game items, not tradable NFTs.
The Forge and fusing Fusing is how a player converts earned cards into owned assets. Combining identical cards in the Forge, using GODS together with Flux, produces a single card of higher quality, and fusing from Plain to Meteorite mints a new NFT. This is the mechanism that connects gameplay to the token.
Expansions and sets New sets are released periodically and rotate in competitive formats. Recent examples include the Roots of Ruin expansion on February 17, 2026, which introduced the neutral Everborn tribe and 44 new cards alongside Battle Pass Season 11, and The Waking Plague on June 16, 2026.
Platforms Gods Unchained has long run on desktop, and it entered early access on Google Play and the App Store in June 2026.
GODS is used to:
Supply is one of the clearest cases in this category, and it checks out on chain. A live read of the Ethereum GODS contract at 0xccC8cb5229B0ac8069C51fd58367Fd1e622aFD97 on September 11, 2026 returned the name Gods Unchained, the symbol GODS, 18 decimals, and a total supply of exactly 500,000,000 tokens. The same contract exposes a capped-supply constant, and that constant returns exactly 500,000,000 tokens as well. Because total supply already equals the cap, the contract's mint path cannot issue another token. This is a real, contract-enforced maximum, not a marketing claim.
One nuance is worth stating precisely, because it is often described loosely. The deployed token contract does not expose a standard burn or burnFrom entry point. Staking and fee sinks therefore lock or redirect tokens rather than destroying them, and any description of GODS as deflationary should be read as tokens leaving circulation, not as total supply falling.
Most blockchain card games asked players to buy in before they could play. Gods Unchained inverted that: the game is free, the cards you earn by playing are real, and the crafting system is the bridge between earning and owning. That design is the reason it retained a competitive player base long after the 2021 play-to-earn wave receded. Its second distinguishing feature is vertical integration, since the studio that made the game also built the rollup it runs on, so the game's requirements shaped the chain rather than the other way around.
Card ownership and GODS balances are secured by the underlying networks: Ethereum for the token contract, and Immutable zkEVM, a validity-rollup network that posts proofs back to Ethereum, for in-game assets. Supply integrity for GODS is enforced by the capped mint described above.
Game logic itself, including matchmaking, ranked rewards and Flux accrual, runs on the studio's servers. That is a normal design decision for a real-time card game, but it means competitive fairness and reward accrual depend on the operator rather than on consensus.
Gods Unchained is the clearest long-running test of whether players will treat blockchain-owned game items as normal game items. It survived the collapse of the play-to-earn model that took most of its peers, kept shipping expansions and a competitive ladder, and drove the creation of a full scaling stack along the way. Whatever happens next to its publisher, its design choices remain the reference point for anyone building a web3 game where gameplay is meant to come first.
GODS trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized venues on the networks where it is deployed. Note that Binance does not list GODS for direct spot trading, which is a common misconception. Availability varies by jurisdiction, so check the venue's own asset page.
GODS has been available on venues including:
After purchase, GODS can be held on an exchange, which is custodial, in any EVM-compatible non-custodial wallet on Ethereum or Immutable zkEVM, in a hardware wallet paired with an EVM wallet interface, or in the staking program, where tokens sit in a protocol contract.
GODS exists on more than one network, and game assets live on Immutable zkEVM. Always confirm the network and, where relevant, the bridge route before moving tokens.
