Creditcoin is a Layer 1 blockchain built around a specific idea: that a verifiable record of loans and repayments is valuable in markets where formal credit bureaus barely exist. Lenders record loan issuance and repayment on the chain, borrowers accumulate a portable credit history that is not owned by any single institution, and third parties can audit that history without trusting the lender's own books.
The network has since broadened. Current Creditcoin is a fully EVM-compatible chain whose distinguishing feature is cross-chain readability: contracts deployed on it verify and act on data from other blockchains natively, rather than through a bridge or an external oracle service.
CTC is the native token. It pays transaction fees, secures the network through staking, and carries governance rights.
Official sources:
Creditcoin comes out of Gluwa, a fintech company led by founder and chief executive Tae Oh. The concept was aimed at the large population worldwide that has no formal credit history and therefore cannot borrow at reasonable rates even when creditworthy.
The first version launched in 2017 as a proof-of-work chain focused narrowly on recording credit transactions. Its first significant institutional user was Aella, a Nigerian fintech lender, which recorded tens of thousands of real loans on the chain within weeks of going live. Gluwa has continued this emerging-market infrastructure work, including a memorandum of understanding signed with Nigeria's central bank in 2024.
The network has gone through three broad phases:
Creditcoin 1.0 and 2.0 A Substrate-based chain, initially proof of work, purpose-built for credit records.
Creditcoin 2.0+ The move to nominated proof of stake, modeled on Polkadot's design, which replaced mining with elected validators.
Creditcoin 3.0 Full EVM compatibility and universal smart contracts, letting developers use standard Ethereum tooling while reading state from other chains. The earlier Substrate-focused network continues under the CC Enterprise name.
Three mechanisms define the network.
Nominated proof of stake Validators are elected once per era, roughly daily, based on the total CTC backing them. Nominators stake CTC behind validators they choose and receive a share of those validators' block rewards. The active set is capped, so validators compete for election. Moving off proof of work also shortened block times substantially and cut the per-block reward, lowering issuance to match the cheaper cost of validating.
EVM execution with universal smart contracts Creditcoin runs standard EVM bytecode, so Solidity contracts and Ethereum development tools work. What is unusual is the cross-chain read and write capability exposed to those contracts.
The Attestcoin Protocol A cross-chain execution and attestation layer built into the chain's runtime rather than deployed on top of it. Once a block on a supported source chain finalizes and is attested on Creditcoin, a contract can cryptographically verify transaction data from that block within a single Creditcoin block. Verification is distributed across multiple independent parties so no single operator can unilaterally falsify a result, which is the intended difference from a centralized oracle or a custodial bridge.
Mainnet uses chain ID 102030, RPC access at mainnet3.creditcoin.network, CTC as the currency symbol, and a Blockscout explorer. Because the chain has both Substrate and EVM account systems, it is important to know which account type an address belongs to before sending funds.
The main components are:
CTC has several roles:
There is an important nuance. Native CTC lives on Creditcoin itself, while an ERC-20 representation known as CTC (G-CRE) exists on Ethereum at 0xa3ee21c306a700e682abcdfe9baa6a08f3820419, and that bridged form is what most centralized exchanges list. Movement between the two uses a dedicated swap tool and third-party bridge infrastructure, and the two forms are not the same asset for staking purposes. Read the official documentation on token forms before bridging.
Creditcoin's first distinguishing feature is that it launched with a concrete non-speculative use case and shipped real lending volume through a licensed operator in an emerging market. That is unusual: most chains build infrastructure first and search for demand afterwards.
Its second is the architectural choice to put cross-chain verification in the runtime rather than in a contract or an external service. Applications get native access to other chains' state without individually integrating a bridge, which shifts the trust assumption to the chain's own attester set.
Its third is longevity through repeated redesign. The network changed both its consensus model and its execution environment while keeping the same asset, which also means older descriptions of Creditcoin as a proof-of-work credit ledger are no longer accurate.
Compared with RWA and private credit protocols such as Centrifuge, Goldfinch or Maple Finance, Creditcoin is a base network rather than a lending product. It records and verifies credit activity rather than originating and underwriting it.
Compared with interoperability-focused networks, Creditcoin's approach is neither a message-passing bridge nor a general oracle marketplace. It is an attestation layer that gives contracts direct read access to finalized foreign state.
Practical uses include:
Security depends on:
Key considerations:
Well over a billion people worldwide have no usable formal credit history, which locks them out of affordable borrowing regardless of their actual reliability. Creditcoin is one of the few blockchain projects that started from that problem rather than from a technology looking for an application, and it has operating history with real lenders to point to. The current cross-chain direction is a broader bet, but the credit-history thesis remains among the clearest examples of a blockchain doing something traditional infrastructure genuinely fails to deliver in much of the world.
CTC is listed on centralized exchanges, mostly as the Ethereum-based representation, and is available on decentralized exchanges including Uniswap and ecosystem venues on Creditcoin itself. Availability and pairs vary by jurisdiction and by platform.
CTC is commonly available on venues such as:
Pairs are usually quoted against USDT. Confirm whether the exchange supports native Creditcoin withdrawals or only the Ethereum representation.
After purchase, CTC can be held:
Because Creditcoin has both Substrate and EVM account types as well as an Ethereum-based token form, verify the destination account type and network before every transfer. Sending the wrong form to the wrong address type is the most common way CTC is lost.
