SoSoValue is a crypto research and investment platform that pairs a market data terminal with an on-chain index protocol. Its whitepaper describes four connected products: the SoSoValue Terminal for research and market data, the SoSoValue Indexes (SSI) Protocol for tokenized index baskets, SoDEX as a decentralized orderbook exchange, and ValueChain as the Layer 1 infrastructure beneath them. SOSO is the platform's native token, used for on-chain governance, for reducing trading fees on SoDEX, and as the gas token of ValueChain. The token is issued as an ERC-20 on Ethereum with a deployment on Base, the chain where the first SSI index tokens launched.

The project's own documentation does not identify its founders. Coverage of the company's Series A announcement in January 2025 named Jivvva Kwan and Jessie Lo as co-founders, both of whom were quoted in that announcement. SoSoValue raised roughly $4.15 million in a seed round in mid-2024, then announced a $15 million Series A co-led by HSG and SmallSpark with participation from Mirana Ventures and SafePal, at a valuation reported around $200 million.
The SSI Protocol went live in beta on Base in December 2024 with four index tokens: MAG7.ssi, MEME.ssi, DEFI.ssi and USSI. Before that, the platform was known mainly for its research terminal and its spot crypto ETF dashboards, which track daily and cumulative net flows for US-listed spot products and are widely quoted in market commentary.
The SSI Protocol is described in the whitepaper as an on-chain spot index protocol built on the EVM. Each index token is a wrapped claim on a basket of underlying spot assets. Constituents are selected against published eligibility rules, including listing on qualified exchanges, a 30-day average turnover filter, a minimum listing duration, and liquidity and market-value thresholds. Stablecoins and derivative tokens are excluded. Assets are grouped into 12 sectors, including Layer1, Layer2, DeFi, RWA, Meme, DePIN, AI and GameFi.
Issuance runs through a whitelisted arbitrage loop rather than open minting. A Whitelist Participant (WLP), which must pass KYB verification, requests a quote from the protocol server and submits a mint order in USDC. A Private Market Maker (PMM) sources the underlying tokens and transfers them into a custody wallet, after which the protocol mints index tokens to the WLP. Redemption reverses the sequence and burns the tokens. Because WLPs can mint and redeem against net asset value, the secondary market price on venues such as Uniswap is kept close to the value of the basket.
Indexes are reconstituted monthly, with buffer zones that control how far a constituent must drift before it is added or removed. Minting and redemption are paused during rebalancing while the PMM executes the trades and custody wallets settle.
The whitepaper's token section lists three roles for SOSO: enabling community decisions through on-chain voting, reducing SoDEX trading fees when staked, and serving as the native gas token of ValueChain. It states that SOSO has a permanently fixed supply of one billion with no inflation, and that utility may be extended in future through on-chain voting.
SOSO staking also appears in the index business. Whitelist Participants and Index Compilers are required to stake SOSO as a deposit, and the platform has run reward epochs in which SSI holders who stake SOSO alongside their index positions receive boosted rewards. These programs are periodic rather than permanent features, so their terms change between epochs.
Most crypto data platforms stop at analytics, and most index protocols start with no audience. SoSoValue built the research surface first and then attached an issuance protocol to it, so the same product that shows a user a sector breakdown can also sell them exposure to that sector in one token. The ETF flow dashboards are the clearest example of a data asset that has become a reference point beyond the platform itself.
Compared with pure market data providers, SoSoValue takes balance sheet and operational risk by running an issuance and custody workflow. Compared with fully permissionless index protocols, its mint and redeem path is deliberately gated: only KYB-verified participants can create or destroy index tokens, and the underlying assets sit with named institutional custodians rather than in a smart contract vault. That design buys execution quality and asset sourcing at the cost of trust minimization, which is the main structural difference a buyer should understand.
The SSI protocol contracts are published as a public Solidity repository built with Foundry, which allows independent review of the mint, burn and rebalancing logic. Access to issuance is restricted to verified participants, and the assets backing each index are held with third-party custodians rather than by anonymous parties. SOSO itself is a standard ERC-20 token, so token-level risk is limited to the usual smart contract and approval risks, while the more meaningful risk sits in the custody and market-making layer around the index products.
Index products are the standard way ordinary investors get diversified exposure in traditional markets, and crypto has repeatedly struggled to make them work on-chain. SoSoValue is one of the few attempts that pairs the issuance machinery with a research audience large enough to distribute it. Whether or not the index business scales, the platform's ETF and flow data has already become part of how the market reads institutional demand.
SOSO is listed on a range of centralized exchanges and can also be bought on-chain. The token exists as an ERC-20 on Ethereum and as a deployment on Base, so it can be traded through automated market makers such as Uniswap on either network, and through SoDEX once positions are on ValueChain. Always confirm the contract address from the official site or a block explorer before swapping, because tokens with similar names are common.
SOSO is a standard ERC-20 token, so any Ethereum-compatible wallet will hold it, including browser wallets and mobile wallets. For larger balances, a hardware wallet used with a software front end keeps the private keys offline. If you hold the Base deployment, make sure your wallet is connected to Base rather than Ethereum mainnet, since the two contracts are separate. Leaving tokens on an exchange is convenient for active trading but means you do not control the keys, and staking SOSO for index boosts or SoDEX fee discounts requires self-custody.
